MRI of the abdomen will be available on the MBS for people living with TSC from 1 July 2024
Earlier this year we shared the good news that thanks to your support, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the abdomen would in future be funded under the medical benefits scheme (MBS) for patients living with TSC in Australia.
The government has now confirmed that funding for MRI of the abdomen under the MBS for patients living with TSC will start from 1 July 2024. This will make abdominal MRIs free to access through bulk billing services.
Thanks and congratulations again to everyone who supported this application, particularly members of our TSC Community, Rare Voices Australia (RVA) and Dr Matt Sypek and Dr Kathy Nicholls at Royal Melbourne Hospital.
Details on the approval can be found at MSAC – 1702 – Abdominal MRI for rare genetic conditions associated with increased risk of renal tumours.
