Gifts in Will (Bequests)

After taking care of your loved ones in your will you may also choose to leave a bequest (a gift in your will) to TSA (Tuberous Sclerosis Australia).

Choosing to leave a charitable bequest is a wonderful way to leave a lasting legacy, making a difference in the lives of families affected by TSC (Tuberous Sclerosis Complex) for generations to come.

Your generosity in leaving a bequest will help to ensure our support and information services can continue well into the future and that future generations of families will have someone to turn to when TSC comes crashing into their world.

Please feel free to contact us for a confidential conversation to find out more about how you make a bequest gift to TSA and how we can help.

What is a bequest?

A bequest is an instruction you make in your will, directing that some or all of your estate be gifted to a charity or particular cause. It can be in the form of money, property, shares and debentures, works of art, or other valuables. You don’t have to be wealthy to make a bequest – whatever you choose to give will make a difference in the lives of individuals facing the challenges of life with TSC.

Getting help to plan your estate

Estate planning is about ensuring that for now and in the future, the value of your assets are maximised and will be directed to the people and causes dear to you. A trusted legal or financial advisor can help develop a plan for your current situation and also for the realisation of your estate.

Your legal or financial advisor can help you determine the appropriate gift level, the type of gift to make, the tax implications and how to best structure your gift.

Wording your intention in your will

At the core of estate planning is a person’s will. Including TSA in your will is simple. The following standard wording can be used or adapted to your requirements in writing a new will or amending your existing will:

Bequests for general purposes
‘I bequeath to Tuberous Sclerosis Australia Inc (Incorporation no. Y07116-42)…. (fill in amount of money, percentage or residue of estate, details of property or shares). My bequest is to be used for the general purposes of Tuberous Sclerosis Australia and I declare that the receipt of the treasurer, secretary or public officer of Tuberous Sclerosis Australia Inc is an absolute discharge to my executors.’

Bequests for specified purposes
For bequests for a defined purpose such as support for research or another activity wording similar to the following is appropriate:

‘I bequeath to Tuberous Sclerosis Australia Inc (Incorporation no. Y07116-42)… (fill in amount of money, percentage or residue of estate, details of property or shares). My bequest is to be used to support (research into Tuberous Sclerosis or other activity). I declare that the receipt of the treasurer, secretary or public officer of the Tuberous Sclerosis Australia Inc is an absolute discharge to my executors’

Let us know, because we would like to thank you

We understand that making a will is a very personal matter. Letting us know your intention to make TSA one of your beneficiaries would be of assistance to our future planning. We would very much like the opportunity to thank you for your intended gift during your lifetime. It would also – with your consent – provide us with an opportunity to recognise your generosity.

TSA also recommends that you share your intended gift with your executor and family to ensure your wishes are understood and supported.

Gifts in Will Deb and mum

You don’t have to be wealthy to make a bequest. Whatever gift you choose to give- large or small – will help everyone facing the challenges of life with TSC.
