Genetic Testing and TSC
Most people with TSC (Tuberous Sclerosis Complex) have enough physical signs of the condition for a specialist to diagnose them without the need for genetic testing.Genetic testing can however be helpful in some situations such as:
- when someone is suspected of having TSC but does not have enough signs for a specialist to make a confident diagnosis;
- to test whether other family members also have TSC;
- in family planning - including where the parents of a child diagnosed with TSC wish to have more children;
- testing a baby in pregnancy or an embryo in an IVF setting where one of the parents is affected by TSC.
In this online Zoom event, Dr Fiona McKenzie, Clinical Geneticist with Genetic Health WA will tell us more about when it is advisable to get genetic testing and how and where it can be done.
