Genetic Testing and TSC

Most people with TSC (Tuberous Sclerosis Complex) have enough physical signs of the condition for a specialist to diagnose them without the need for genetic testing.Genetic testing can however be helpful in some situations such as:

• when someone is suspected of having TSC but does not have enough signs for a specialist to make a confident diagnosis;
• to test whether other family members also have TSC;
• in family planning - including where the parents of a child diagnosed with TSC wish to have more children;
• testing a baby in pregnancy or an embryo in an IVF setting where one of the parents is affected by TSC.
