Senate Inquiry into Epilepsy Care

The government has launched a Senate Inquiry looking at Epilepsy Care in Australia. TSA will be making a submission. We urge you, as members of our Community who live with the impacts of epilepsy daily, to make individual submissions if you can.

The inquiry has been set up to look at barriers to diagnosis and access to appropriate treatment options, including the impact of factors such as:

  • geographic locations,
  • availability of medical practitioners, including neurologists,
  • costs,
  • cultural and language barriers,
  • drug-resistant epilepsy and its psychosocial and economic impacts on patients and the community,
  • the level of community awareness and understanding of epilepsy and treatment options,
  • barriers to access support services after diagnosis, including the National Disability Insurance Scheme,
  • the adequacy of Commonwealth funding for research into epilepsy; and
  • any other related matters.

Full details, including how to make a submission are here.
