TSA Impact Report 2024

Our Community,
Our Hope, Our Future

A message from the CEO

It’s been another positive year for TSA and we’ve celebrated many successes.

Most of all, we are so grateful for our Community. That is why we are dedicating this year’s Impact Report to you. The people who share their stories, donate, volunteer, fundraise, raise awareness and give back, however they can. This year, we want to acknowledge how important each of you have been to the success of TSA in 2024.

We are sharing your stories, your faces and your achievements. It is only by working together that we can help create a better life and more hopeful future for everyone affected by TSC.

So, thank you and we hope you enjoy this new format Impact Report.

Strategic

Goals

Our Management Committee

The work of TSA is supported by of our volunteer Management Committee, many of whom have lived experience of TSC. Our strategic plan for 2023-2025 was developed by the TSA Team and the Management Committee. A key consideration in setting our priorities is the feedback we receive each year from our TSC Community Survey

Thanks also to the following organisations that we work closely with: TSC International, TSC New Zealand, Genetic Alliance and Rare Voices Australia.

Theory of Change

In 2024, TSA collaborated with fellows from The Social Impact Hub, who generously worked pro bono to develop a Theory of Change framework. This in-depth project involved exploring TSA’s work and clarifying how we aim to achieve our mission. A theory of change helps map out a clear path to creating positive change, providing a structured approach to address complex issues, test assumptions, and make data-driven decisions. When shared, it builds understanding and support by conveying TSA’s vision and strategic direction to the broader community.

This year, we’re thrilled to celebrate the amazing people in our TSC Community who have shared their stories with us. Each story shines a light on the everyday courage, resilience, and kindness that brings us together. Light the Way

Our 2024 Light the Way Giving Day on TSC Global Awareness Day was an incredible show of support from our Community! Together, we raised over $63,000, with nearly half of those donations inspired by our passionate TSC family ambassadors and champions. Thanks to 334 generous supporters, with an average gift of over $160, we’ve strengthened our ability to make a difference for everyone impacted by TSC. The heart and dedication of our fundraisers and donors truly light the way for a brighter future.

Sze-Ann Woon & Ryan Michael, parents to Karamo and Light the Way Fundraising Champions

We fundraise because our son has TSC and we hoped to increase awareness among our friends by hosting a bbq.

Kirsten Kovacevic, mum to Katalina and Light the Way Fundraising Champion

I fundraise because I would like to raise awareness and support for families affected with TSC and to support TSA, as they provide a great support network and knowledge to families with TSC.

Renee Bliudzius, an adult living with TSC and Light the Way Fundraising Champion

I choose to continue living my life as normally as possible. Supported by loved ones and the TSC Community, I have embraced my truth and focused on managing my condition. Today, I have 6 children that display no signs of the condition.

Kelly Bright, mum to Arielle and Light the Way Fundraising Champion

I hope that raising funds in honour of my sweet girl can help other families and other TSC warriors.

Kristy Ferguson, mum to Kennedy and Light the Way Fundraising Champion

Before Kennedy’s diagnosis we had no idea what TSC was, it was a very overwhelming time and there were so many unknowns. Kennedy has some developmental delays but she is cheeky and makes us laugh daily. She continues to learn and grow and make us proud every day.

Meg Gould talking about Robert Gould, an adult living with TSC and Light the Way Fundraising Champion

Loves daydreaming, science and wants to be a lifelong learner.

Mimi and Rob Rossano, parents to Roxie and Light the Way Fundraising Champions

We fundraise because there’s still no TSC cure, there are gaps in treatment, medicines not covered by PBS, specific research trials into preventing TSC that are unfunded. We’d like to see multidisciplinary TSC clinics in other states and awareness and funding for the TSA Nurse.

Samantha Smith, mum to Isabel and Light the Way Fundraising Champion

Our family fundraise for TSA because they are a guiding light for families like ours when TSC comes crashing into their world. TSA works to inform, support, connect and empower the TSC Community.

Heidi Paech, mum to Asta and Light the Way Fundraising Champion

I fundraise in honour of our little star Asta. Asta is doing really well, and we couldn’t be prouder of her resilience, strength and progress since her last surgery.

Medical Advisory Panel

Our Medical Advisory Panel helps guide and support TSA (Tuberous Sclerosis Australia). We are indebted to this team of TSC (Tuberous Sclerosis Complex) experts which assists in reviewing and writing materials for our website and new publications, facilitates introductions to other health professionals and researchers and keeps us in the loop on important research, medical and treatment developments. You can learn more about the professionals who sit on that panel by clicking below.
