The conference will feature a 3-hour virtual event, accessed via a Zoom link for everyone around Australia. Additionally there will be a full day face-to-face event in Perth, WA.

The virtual event (3 hours via Zoom). The event fee is just $15 per household.

The virtual event will provide an opportunity to find out about the updated TSC Management and Surveillance Guidelines which have just been published. The focus of the changes and the event is on TAND (TSC-Associated Neuropsychiatric Disorders).

You will hear from and have the chance to ask questions of a team of international expert TSC health professionals, including:

  • Professor Petrus de Vries, Sue Struengmann Professor of Child & Adolescent Psychology, University of Cape Town
  • Dr Anna Jansen, Head of Paediatric Neurology, University Hospital Brussels
  • Dr Darcy Krueger, Director of the Tuberous Sclerosis Clinic at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center

The virtual event runs for 3 hours. The event fee is just $15 per household. The start and end time will depend on your time zone:

WA 10.00am-1.00pm; NT 11.30am-2.30pm; QLD 12.00pm-3.00pm; SA 12.30pm-3.30pm; NSW/ACT/VIC/TAS 1.00pm-4.00pm

This is a must attend event for everyone affected by TSC, including adults, families and carers.

The face-to-face full day event in Perth, includes participation in the virtual event as well as some live, face-to-face presentations and discussions. It will run from 9.00am – 5.30pm WA time (refreshments, lunch and end of day drinks are included). The event fee is just $50 per person. 

The full day Perth event will be held at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in Central Perth.  This is a great opportunity to not only find out about the updated TSC Management and Surveillance Guidelines and TAND, but to also meet other people facing the challenges of living with TSC and health professionals working in WA. It will include live expert presentations and discussions on:

  • Genetics and TSC – Dr Fiona Mc Kenzie, Geneticist, King Edward Memorial Hospital for Women, Subiaco
  • Epilepsy and TSC – Professor Lakshmi Nagarajan, Neurologist/Epileptologist, Perth Children’s Hospital
  • Services available to the TSC Community in WA

This event provides a unique opportunity for TSC-affected families and adults to hear from and ask questions of expert TSC health professionals and to connect with and learn from each other.

What will be discussed?

The virtual event will focus on the updated TSC Management and Surveillance Guidelines which have recently been published. Significantly, this is the first update since 2013 and Dr Darcy Krueger will be telling us what has changed and why.

Many of the updates are in the area of TAND – TSC Associated Neuropsychiatric Disorders.  We know this can be one of the most challenging aspects of TSC for many families and adults living with the disease. You will have a unique opportunity to hear from two international experts in this field – Psychiatrist Professor Petrus de Vries and Paediatric Neurologist Dr Dr Anna Jansen. They will discuss and answer your questions on:

  • What is TAND?
  • How does it present?
  • Managing TAND – the latest research and the new clinical guidelines for identifying and treating TAND

For everyone who is able to join us at the face-to-face full day event in Perth, the conference will also include live expert presentations and discussions on:

Can I get financial assistance?

The event fees are:

  • Virtual event $15
  • Face-to-face Perth event $50

TSA is a recipient of funding from the Commonwealth Department of Social Services to assist individuals in Australia to participate in this conference. This grant funding will cover the event fee for eligible attendees for both the virtual and Perth events. It may also cover some travel and accommodation costs for those travelling to attend the Perth event.

You are eligible for this funding if:

  • you have TSC or LAM yourself or
  • someone in your household who has TSC will be attending the conference with you

Can my family members participate?

Absolutely. We know that many people are involved in supporting a person with TSC and we welcome anyone who would like to participate in the event.  The fee for the virtual event covers you and everyone in your household attending the event. And, if you or anyone in your household who will be attending has TSC or LAM, your event fee can be covered by a government grant. Simply tick the relevant box on the registration form.
