COVID-19 Vaccination Information

The TSC Alliance in the USA and its medical advisory committee has recently provided an updated COVID-19 Vaccine position Statement. You can click here to read it in full.

Whilst the situation in Australia regarding vaccine approvals and availability is different to the USA, TSA and its medical advisors strongly support the following messages from TSC Alliance:

  • If you or your child have not yet received a COVID-19 vaccine, get vaccinated as soon as possible, even if you have already had COVID-19 infection.
  • You do not need a prescription to get the vaccine.
  • If you or your child are currently taking Everolimus or Sirolimus for TSC, stay on these medications unless otherwise directed by your TSC clinician(s).

As you know, people with TSC are all affected quite differently and may have quite different treatment pathways, so you should speak to your doctor to provide specific advice on the risks and benefits for you/your child.

You might also want to contact the enquiry line on 1800 020 080 and explain the specifics of your case and ask for further advice. Additionally, you might like to check the Department of Health website at https://www.health.gov.au/  and sign up for updates https://www.health.gov.au/initiatives-and-programs/covid-19-vaccines/subscribe-to-covid-19-vaccines-updates

Whilst variants such as Delta are proving that reinfection and breakthrough cases are possible, even in the vaccinated population, people who are vaccinated are having less severe and fatal consequences with quicker recovery times.
